Jeet Kune Do The lead snap kick to the groin

The essence of the art of Jeet Kune Do lies in its practicality in a street fight. That is why the lead snap kick to the groin of the opponent is a fundamental tool that needs to be mastered. It is so basic but when perfected in execution it is lethal, rendering this kick the most effective kick in the art of Jeet Kune Do.

PRACTICALITY

The kick to the groin catches the opponent off guard because he least expects this strike. This kick is a lower body attack which makes it even harder to see and thus difficult to block. A lot of strength is not required for a simple kick to the groin, which makes it ideal for a lady or person of smaller stature to use against a much larger and stronger opponent.

ENSURING EFFECTIVENESS

To ensure that this kick is effective your reaction time has to be quick and the kick should be lighting fast and accurate. To master quickness, speed and accuracy, the kick should be practiced and practiced. As Master Bruce Lee said, “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

REMEMBER TO ATTACK FIRST TO PREVENT BEING ATTACKED

To escape being attacked, one should first anticipate the attack and then be the first to attack. When the prospective attacker has been kicked to the groin, his mindset changes from being aggressive to being submissive. This makes it possible for you to either attack him some more if needed or to escape the danger.

Step 1

Get into the On Guard Stance. In a street fight it may not be possible to get into the complete On Guard Stance but you should try to position yourself as much as you can to the On Guard Stance. Have this in the back of your mind.

Step 2

Shift your body weight to your rear foot. Lift the lead foot above the ground, readying to kick.

Step 3

Finish the kick to the prospective attacker’s groin with any part of the top area of your foot (toes or instep). Be quick in your reaction, kick fast and be accurate to hit his groin. Remember to be the first to attack.
Remember to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and PRACTICE …
